an icicle for an eye

the tight-lipped city

put up no defense

against the suburban move

it settled the cold case

by inner installments

till memory was paid in full

one look back

before the key in the night door

is turned

the road is aghast

at going in

time is happening

at the same time

beside you a bird

carries it lightly

but only because you follow

its solitary flight against the still sky
