“Do you feel like you are in a blender?” This was the opening line of a monthly email from Patricia Cota-Robles. I laughed, because this resonated with what I have been feeling. I am in a space in my life right now, where I am juggling a lot of hats. I have my financial services business, which has been a part of my life for the last 16 years, my part-time administrative job, which is a transitional role, and my Reiki/Healing practise, which is the newest part of my life and in many ways still developing and evolving. On top of all of this I juggle family and relationship commitments.
When life starts to feel a little chaotic, it is a reminder to me to slow down. Sometimes that can be a bit of a challenge when there are so many responsibilities and the “busy-ness” of city life, and other distractions, pulling at me. I am thankful for summer, and the opportunity to get out of the city and spend some time in a more natural setting, to reconnect with the earth and with myself.
Recently, I spent the weekend at a friend’s cottage, and attended one day of “Mother Earth Gathering Womyn of All Nations”, an event that was held at a sacred site about an hour and a half outside the city. I will talk a bit more about that in my next post. In the morning, when my friends and I arrived at the event, not much was going on so we decided to go to the Petroform site at Bannock point next to where the event was held. I have been there before. This is the place I stayed during the September Full Moon to participate in a weekend fasting ritual. We spent about an hour to an hour and a half walking around the site, discovering all kinds of petroform rocks, in the shapes of turtles, fish, snakes, people etc. All the rocks tell a story. When you hold your hands over the rocks you can feel their energy. There were some larger boulders that we would place our hands on and just feel the powerful healing energy they would emit.
When I reached a large area of open rock, I lay down to feel the energy of the earth and to allow this to flow through my body. I asked Creator to tell me the story of this rock. In a vision I saw my power animal – a deer (when given my spirit name last year I was told I am part of the deer clan), and then a bear appeared, and finally an eagle (my spirit name is Yellow Eagle). When I sat up, everything seemed clearer and brighter and my senses were more awake.
We continued to walk, and made our way back to a large open rock with a few small trees in the center. The tree branches were hanging with colourful pieces of cloth tied to them. A circle of stones surrounded the tree, with gateways formed to the north and south with small piles of rocks. This is known as the medicine wheel. It is a place of ceremony, rituals and healing. The night before we were there, 150 women, all part of the Gathering, were there to celebrate the May Full Moon. I was told it was an amazing experience. The energy of that event still lingered.
After taking a moment to honour Spirit and the sacredness of this place with an offering of some tobacco, I stretched out on the rock and again asked Creator to tell me the story of this place. In my vision I saw many people, indigenous people from a long time ago, participating in ceremony around this space. It is a gathering place, place to connect, a place to heal, a place to celebrate.
This walk was the space I needed to feel connected and grounded. It was the space I needed to let go of the story I came with to enter into a new story that was about to unfold as I participated in the Gathering I was called to be a part of.
