“I am a wild garden, untamed and oh so free, been sitting here with the moon and the cats, growing majestically….”
These are the first lines of one of my songs.
It is through crisis that we often arrive at clarity. It is through deep loss and let go that we often see immediately what is dear to us and what we treasure, pulled into the NOW by painful necessity.
In these times of global conflict and crisis, we are torn by images of destruction. Our belief in goodness and wellness is exposed to the harsh winds of mass epidemics and species extinction.
We are being tested. Which paradigm do we choose? Do we fight and protest and write zillions of letters.
I say we smile. For it is contagious.
Inner peace is contagious. I say we create so much beauty in our lives that we can only sit in awe. We open our eyes wide, share our hearts, embrace our pain without running or hiding or fidgeting or fighting, and oddly enough, I believe deeply, that it is all ONE.
We have destroyed and disrespected mankind, our home, we have to stop now for 3 secs and breathe. Do you feel? The universe is breathing through us. Yes, we are alive. Now open your eyes and look. Breathe again. This time breathe in the sky, the baby’s laugh, the wave that just splashed against your ankle. Breathe in the cool damp air, the arid desert. Look, breathe in the bird that is gliding, soaring in such deep trust and exhale gratitude.
The answer to protecting our environment is to realize that we are not separate, not even for a mini-second.
The inter-connectivity within and without simply blows my mind. As soon as we connect deeply with our own inner beauty the outer beauty comes alive and vice versa. As soon as we merge with the strength of the mountain or the gentle tenderness of a warm summers breeze, we come alive.
Most of us believe a crisis must be avoided. A crisis must be used as a powerful catalyst. Avoiding, denying, or minimizing sets us up for failure. Go deep into silence and be with it – having the courage to really feel all that pain, knowing it is the fertilizer. I grew up in the fields of Wisconsin, it was the dead rotten plants that we tilled into the soil. That is how we grew our crops. Do not be afraid of the darkness, it is where the flowers take their roots, the place where stars are born.
Once you have experienced ugliness you can only run towards beauty, once you have experienced hate, your wounded heart can only reach out towards kindness. Once you have experienced sickness all you want is to be back healthy again. Your perception shifts and love enters the game. When the universe loves, there is no turning back to the old ways – you have broken through the dark – you have started becoming your own mini star.
The planet is evolution. To evolve is also to decay. We are growing and expanding every day. Do not fight the darkness, and feed the bitter, use it to heal and grow.
BLOSSOM. OUT OF THE DARKNESS we shall rise.
Smile, for it is contagious. Love is contagious.
Inner peace is contagious. I say we create so much beauty in our lives that we can only sit in awe. We have been given so much opportunity.
