May Your Heart Be Filled With Light

The Christmas Season is one of my favourite times of the year.   I love the time spent with family and friends.  I love the music, which my favourite radio station starts to play December 1st until December 26th (my partner starts playing Christmas music a few weeks earlier than that).  I love the lights and candles.  For many years I have had the tradition of lighting candles around my living room every Sunday of Advent.

My sisters and I, and my oldest niece, get together once a year to make soap for gifts.  It is a fun tradition and something that is appreciated by our friends and family.  Our soaps are primarily vegetable based.  We have fun mixing in a variety of essential oils, ground lavender, rose petals, mint tea, coffee grounds, or whatever else seems suitable, into the soap to create some texture.

I love the opportunity to play pipe organ during Advent.  I have a favourite Brahms piece that I play every year, “Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen” (“Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming”).  Click on the link below to enjoy a recording of this.  I recorded this earlier in the month (a rough recording from my iPhone).  Of course, there are many Christmas hymns that I love to play as well.

There is something magical about all of this for me.  It is a reminder to live from a place of love, joy, and peace. It is a time to give and to receive with gratitude.

Somehow, this year feels different for me.  I am not sure how to describe it, other than to say that I feel this light growing inside and around me and I feel that from other people as well.  As our light continues to grow, our lives and the lives of others around us are transformed.  There is so much to celebrate and so much to be grateful for!

Whatever tradition, beliefs or religious background you are from and may be celebrating at this time of year, I send you love, light and peace.  I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with you through these words.
