The Gate

In my bedroom, I have a painting my mother created several years ago when she took a painting class.  I have had this painting for a few years, but kept it in the background for most of that time.  A year ago, I was encouraged to rearrange my bedroom, to change the energy flow of that space in my home.  When making the recommended changes, as I was in the process of decorating a particular corner of my room, this painting seemed to fit perfectly there and the significance of it jumped out at me.

This painting is a garden scene with an arbour gate and a stone path leading through it.  It reminded me of Louis Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life”.  In the companion DVD a woman stops to pick up a card that someone drops as she is walking by.  The card says “I am willing to change”.  On the other side it says “I am willing to release my old patterns and negative beliefs.  The power that created me has given me the power to create my new life.  I choose positive, fulfilling new thoughts. I begin anew, right here, right now”. Louise Hay

This woman continues walking along and comes across a gate.  She makes the choice to walk through it.  The act of walking through a gate along a path represents the choice to change.  My life has become all about transformation in the last few years, so this image is an appropriate one for me to have in a place where I can see it every day.

A number of years ago, when I was going through some challenging times, I immersed myself in any self-development tapes and books I could get my hands on.  Six months later I had an experience that made me realize that some concepts I had been reading about were actually sinking in.  I realized I had changed and responded in a positive way to the circumstances I was experiencing at that moment.  I remember having this image of walking through a doorway into a new and beautiful place.  It was exciting to take that step even though there was a requirement to let go of what lay behind me and uncertainty about what lay ahead.  I remember feeling a great deal of excitement to be in that place in my life.

I continue to keep myself open to opportunities to change – to be transformed, opportunities to walk through a gate into a new place and discover what possibilities lay ahead. I invite you to join me.
